One day a 70’s year-old couple walks in a lawyer’s office. Apparently, they’re getting divorced. When the lawyer first received the news was very puzzled, but after some time he got the story.
The couple was quarreling in the past 40 years of their marriage. The only reason why they stayed together was because of their children. They were afraid that it would negatively impact their lives.
Now their children ware all grown up with their own families. The time came for them to live their own lives independently without having to worry about their internal problems.
So they came to the conclusion that divorce is the best thing they can do at the moment. Even though the lawyer understood the problem, he was still confused why after so much time together they still want to get divorced. He thought that so far they should have already get used to each other.
While the lawyer gave them the papers to sign the wife said to her husband I really love you, but I really can’t carry on anymore, “I’m sorry…” ”It’s o.k., I understand…” said the husband.
In that time the lawyer suggested having a dinner with them for one last time before they make the final decision.
The wife said “Why not? Since they are still going to be friends…”
Once they got on the dining table, an awkward silence took place. As their dish came, a roasted chicken, the old man took the drumstick for the old lady… ”Take this, it’s your favorite…”
Then the wife replayed this is always the problem. You always think so highly of yourself and never thought about how I feel. Don’t you know that I hate drumsticks? Little did she know that her husband has been trying all ways to please her? On the other hand, little did she know that drumsticks were the husband’s favorite, but he still wanted to give it to her?
After some few troubling moments, the diner had finished and they all got, now in their separate home. That night both of them had trouble sleeping and after few hours the old man couldn’t take it anymore.
The old men couldn’t take it anymore he wanted to tell her that he still cares for her and loves her. He picks up the phone, started dialing her number… The ringing never stops. He never stopped dialing…
While the old lady was wondering how come after all these years, he still doesn’t understand her at all. As the phone ranged she refused to call, knowing it’s him. ”What’s the point of talking now that it’s over”… she unplugged the phone cord Little did she remember, he had heart problems…
The next day, she received the news that her ex-husband had a heart attack. She rushed to her apartment and saw he was laying on the couch still holding onto the phone. He had a heart attack when he was trying to get through to her phone line…
After few days, she went to his apartment to clear his belongings and she saw in the drawers an insurance policy dated from the day they got married. The beneficiary name was hers and in the pile of the documents, she found a note.
“To my dearest wife,
by the time you’re reading this, I’m sure I’m no longer around. I bought this policy for you. Though the amount is only $100k, I hope it will be able to help me continue my promise that I have made when we got married. I might not be around anymore but I want this amount of money to continue taking care of you just like the way I will if I could have live longer. But, I want you to know I will always be around by your side. I love you. ”
She now started to cry…
“When you love someone, let them know… You never know what will happen the next minute… Learn to build a life together. Learn to love each other… For who they are. Not what they are…”
